Tourist caught smuggling geckos in pants

Posted Tue Dec 8, 2009 4:00pm AEDT

A German visitor was caught trying to leave New Zealand with 23 geckos and 20 skinks hidden in his underwear, a court was told.Hans Kubus, 58, was stopped at Christchurch Airport on Sunday after checking in and was searched by customs staff. A small package containing the reptiles was found in his underwear, prosecutor Mike Bodie told the Christchurch District Court."The package contained eight separate compartments separating various gecko and skink species," he said. Kubus' luggage also contained a single gecko in a rolled up sock. A total of 24 geckos were found from five different species, as well as 20 skinks from two species. The German admitted trading geckos and taking geckos and skinks from the wild without a permit. A black market trade in geckos exists in Europe and those taken by Kubus would have had a street value of about $50,000, Mr Bodie said. The value of the skinks was unknown because trading in that species had not previously been identified. Kubus is due to be sentenced on January 25.

Hey, did I miss a year or two? Guess I did. I have been busy rebuilding our website from scratch so I have made no updates for quite some time.. Here's the Lizzard's Digest condensed verion. Two more ChiliPaloozas have come and gone. Both were fun and as usual the chili was awesome chili. After all these years I was able to place 1st in People's Choice in 2009. The LizzardPalooza 7.5 2008 went well. We had good attendance and a great time. LizzardPalooza 8.5 was just last month. The weather was the best ever. Temps were in the 80s during the day and 60s at night. We again had good attendance with a lot of our out of town friends coming in from Oklahoma and Arkansas. Back by populare demand for the second year we had the Upside Down Cricket event where we turn the boards upside down.Very confusing and hilarious to watch after a few beers. A new twist on Saturday after dinner was the Fallin' Down Drunk Three Legged Sack Race. It was very well received and great for a lot of laughs. Yours truly HL and Becky took first place honors. Practice up. We will be doing it again next year.We did have some unfortunate incidents. Camps being raided and things stolen. We are working on a way to prevent this in the future. We apologize to everyone and particularly to our friends from Oklahoma who were hit the hardest. We hope to eliminate the problem and that you will return to join us next year!

LizzardPalooza 6.5 Wrap Up

Warning to James Ransom of Savage! This is very wordy, you may want to skip this page to save yourself.

Well it took me a month to get to it but let’s all shed a tear because it is time for a LizzardPalooza 6.5 wrap up. The event was a success thanks to the Lizzards and our much appreciated friends. Thursday evening the Lizzards met at the American Legion to load dart standards and tables.   We then sallied forth to Kenny’s Farm & Dart to commence setup. Four hours or so later with the standards standing, the bandstand ready to rock, Porta Potties ready to do what Porta Potties do, dumpsters  standing by to get trashed along with tomorrow night’s guests and the smoker  poised for some killer cooking , voila`, LizzardPalooza 6.5 was born. The real fun of course didn’t begin until Friday.

People started to arrive around 5:00PM Friday evening. Tents were erected and in just a couple of hours our little village took shape. The first event was doubles 501 and started right on time (Lizzard Time) of course! While the first dart event was getting under way the musicians were gathering on the bandstand. First up was a three piece jazz/blues band led by ex Batwater bassman Viktor Tarm. They played some very nice laid back tunes for about an hour or so. They were followed by our own WDA Prez Kraig Moore who jammed on his electric drums to some backing tracks and did a bang up job. After Kraig’s cymbalic performance another one of our own Merlin Suderman (vocals and guitar) took the stage along with the Head Lizzard on harmonica for a blues set that was well received. About this time the first darting event was wrapping up with Brian Byrnes and Danny Scott winning first place honors. The next two events were upside down cricket which I believe with the help of various alcoholic beverages turned out to be very interesting and a lot of fun.  The first upside down match was won by our newest Honorary Lizzard Bob Riederer and George ???.  At the stage a jam was shaping up with Robert Clare from Savage, Viktor Tarm , Pam Songer, and the Head Lizzard, the sax player (sorry can’t remember name) and the guitar player from Viktor’s band on drums. It was rock ‘n’ roll time for some   extended versions of old classics. The music wrapped up for the evening and it was time to see who won the second round of upside down cricket. First place went to Kraig (with a K) Moore and Terry (Hoss) Hassler. A third blind draw was played but I have no clue the outcome. By the way we can all give a big thanks to Rose and Dale Casey for keeping the results and making sure photos were taken. We are missing several last names so if you read this know the any of the last names that are question marked please let me know and I will make the corrections.

Saturday morning  began with a home cooked breakfast provide by the Chamberlain’s. It was all you can eat for $5.00 and delicious. Wow, can Terry Hassler woof down some grub or what. That is one hungry Frog. I was in the breakfast line at the same time as Terry. He gave Kenny’s mom $10.00 for breakfast and when she tried to give him five dollars change he told her no, that she did not understand, that he was going to tear up some breakfast. She explained it was all you can eat but again he told her to keep the ten that he was going to seriously tear up some breakfast. She kept the ten and the rest could probably go down in the Guinness Book of World class breakfast consumption. The Youth/Adult 501 shoot began right after breakfast and right on Lizzard Time as Dale de Scale pointed out again. Eight youth and eight adults signed up to compete. First place was one by Zach Zimmerman and Bob Reiderer and second was taken by Brandon ??? and Kraig Moore. During this event another Honorary Lizzard was born. Bob Reiderer was the first male to take out the elusive Lizzard Double One Out. Congrats to our newest member. All proceeds from the Youth/Adult event in the amount of $80.00 were donated to the Youth League at the next WDA Captain’s Meeting.  Somewhere in this time period Bubba Leffew and John Classen fired up the smoker to cook up the briskets and pork butts for dinner that evening. Mouths were watering all day in anticipation. The first adult trophy event was doubles 501. After some fierce competition the events 1St Place winners Kraig Moore and Bob Reiderer were awarded their trophies and cash payout. Second place was claimed by Glenn ??? and Danny Evans. The next event was Cricket Doubles and the winners of that event were Dan Zimmerman and Buddy ???  with second going to Richard (The Mailman) Selenke and Danny Evans. Chow time! The brisket and pork was awesome and cooked to perfection. A big thanks to Bubba and John on their culinary skills. A number of side dishes along with baked beans filled out the meal. Savage took the stage about this time and began to play their signature songs spanning the 1960’s to current. They were excellent as always. Last but not least of the trophy events was Mixed Triples 601. First place honors for this event went to Dan Zimmerman, Dana Young and Jeremy Fleetwood. Second was claimed by Kraig Moore, Craig Rempke and Kerri Mount. Two more blind draws were to follow with the last wrapping up about 3:30AM Sunday morning.

About noon Sunday the Hot Dog Hoe Down commenced with Rose Casey cooking a whole herd of little doggies. A last hard core blind draw was held and won by Kraig Moore and Rose Casey . Hence LizzardPalooza 6.5 had run it’s course and was winding to a conclusion.

All in all everything went very well and everyone had a great time. There was great darting, great music, awesome food, live music, good friends and last but not least cold beer straight from the coffin. What more do you need for a great weekend party? The only real downside to the event had to do with a group of teenagers getting into people’s coolers and taking their liquor. This was very embarrassing for the Lizzards and for the Chamberlain’s. We would like to offer our apologies if you suffered any loss. The problem is being addressed and measures will definitely be taken to insure that this does not happen again.

I would like to extend flaps down and huge thanks to some very special friends that helped to make the event a success in no particular order. Rose Casey went above and beyond the call of duty. Not only did she do shopping for supplies, she spent the majority of her time along with Dale de Scale Casey, running the darting events and doing an excellent job of it. Thanks as well go out to Bubba Leffew and John Classen for donating their time and skills to cooking an excellent feast for our Saturday dinner. Thanks to the Chamberlain’s for providing a place for the LizzardPalooza to be held and for and excellent Saturday morning breakfast. Savage once again rocked the Palooza as they have every Palooza to date. If you see Robert, James, Vance or Matt around town be sure to tell them thanks. Be sure to pass a thank you on to David Garrett for providing Porta Potties and trash carts for the Palooza. Thanks also go to the Wichita Darting Association for providing the dart standards for the event. Finally thanks to everybody who bought tee shirts, helped setup, helped tear down and who participated in this years LizzardPalooza 6.5

Hats off to Dan and Christy Zimmerman and the Dart Frogs for putting together the fund raiser for the WDA Youth League. I don't know how much they raised in dollars but they did raise the hopes for the future of steel darting in Wichita. The event was held at the Sedgwick County Park in and around the Horseshoe Building. If you did not make it out you missed one heck of a fun time. Beginning with a for real "Bubbaque Cookout" including ribs, burgers and dogs that were cooked by Master Chef Bubba Leffew. Bubba kept everybody fat, dumb and happy with his charcoal cuisine. I don't know the names of all who contributed to the side dishes but I do know that Susan Wood made some wonderful potato salad that received rave reviews and there were some cookies that woould knock you socks off. A couple of horseshoe pits kept both adults and kids busy as Gregg Turner handed out butt whoopin's to whoever dared to challenge. I could almost swear I saw Zach Zimmerman whip up on his old man at the pits but I could have my story skewed a bit. After a few cold beverages of choice (sorry Scott I swiped one from you) and a belly full of food we went into the Very Well Air Conditioned building for the Youth League awards. These kids are impressive in many respects besides being talented up and coming shooters. After the awards the tables and chairs were moved to one end of the room and the dart standards were set up for a blind draw or two. There were some very good matches played. I do not have the winners of the events at my fingertips but I am sure Dan Z. or Ron Diel will provide that info. I do know that Gregg Turner after several attempts took the Frog Double Bull out for a $20.00 bill. It was a gorgeous day outside and a great time inside. This is the type of event Wichita darting could use more of. It is what darts is all about in my opinion. Getting together with friends and family, relaxing, throwing some good darts and just having a good time in general. No BS, no politics, just darts. So simple and the concept was in force Sunday at the Fund Raiser. A good cause and tooooooo much fun! Thanks to all that put it together and oh yeah, I almost forgot, thanks to Jam Master Cool Mo Diel for spinning, or clicking as it were, great tunes for the event.

Later kids,

I am besieged with questions in regard to the LizzardPalooza and if it will be a coming attraction again this year. Many people have asked where was the Head Lizzard last year! Does he not love us anymore. Au contrare, mon freir, this is not the case at all. There is so much concern as to my whereabouts that I feel obligated to come clean and divulge exactly what occurred and why there was no Palooza last year. The good news is that it is looking like LizzardPalooza 6.5 may become a reality this year so stay tuned for an announcement and details in the not to distant future. Now to answer the question "Where The Hell is Head Lizzard" that is lamented on tee shirts far and wide. I think a picture will say a thousand words. Hopefully I can break my bonds and spring back into action this summer.

Well, well, well, it took a couple of days to recover from this years First Fifth Annual ChiliPalooza 2007 but recover I have and looking back consider this years CP to be a success. Thirteen chili entries stirred up the pots of gold this St. Patty's Day for a stiff competition. There were repeat entries as well as some newcomers. Some of our friends from the Legion Riders, Dave & Dave, did very well taking first in the People's Choice and Table Presentation. We also had a couple entries from the Dart Frogs that were very tasty and many other worthy chilis. There was everything from bear chili (yes the four legged variety) to alligator chili to a very tasty but very mysterious Irish blend. I tried them all and liked all but a couple...names withheld to protect the innocent. The CC4 and Savage provided the musical portion of our event and as usual sounded great. The Double One Challenge board was very busy again this year and I think Dan Zimmerman collected the prize money at the end of it all. The last count I heard on the first blind draw was forty-five entries. I think there were actually a few more than that when all was said and done. The Lizzards tossed $100.00 into the blind draw prize money, from taster kit revenue, so payouts were pretty good. I believe the first blind draw paid out $300.00 plus dollars. A second blind draw ensued of course but details get a bit sketchy at that point. Thanks to everyone for helping out, showing up, making chili, playing music and cleaning up the aftermath at the end of it all. A special thanks to our brave judges Debbie Adams, Pete Wiscaver and Friend (sorry can't remember your name), Kraig Moore, Hank (sorry can't recall your last name), and Richard Cranford. I guess the beer erased a few braincells. Sorry about the missing names. I would also like to thank Commander Paul McPhillips Sr. of the American Legion for allowing us to have our shindig at the Legion again this year. Looking forward to next year.... H.L.

Here is some great news as a followup to an article on 1-25-07.

Happy end to iguana penis saga

Thursday, February 1, 2007

An iguana, looking proud of its multiple penises

Mozart, the iguana whose penis was surgically removed after he got a permanent erection, is back with his girlfriends and enjoying a healthy sex life again.Mozart had the operation so he could walk again after suffering from an eternal erection that had put his health at risk. The erection was caused when Mozart mated with one of the females.Remedies from cold water, to introducing more female iguanas into his enclosure all failed, and it was decided that an operation was the only solution to the problem. A spokesman for the Aquatopia zoo in Belgium said: 'It was bad for his heart. But as male iguanas have a second penis, the operation has not affected Mozart's performance. 'He was returned to his mates, and it was clear from the first day his sex life has not been affected.'

Wow, what couple of months! Several major events have occurred that are worthy of mention starting with this years Air Capital Open. Despite blizzard conditions and icy roads there was an exceptionally large turnout of darters from afar as well as a very big local contingent. The tournament went off without a hitch and was a huge success. Thanks to the WDA Executive Counsel and everyone who helped out! The next big item on the list is the closing of the Laid Back Club home of the Lizzards for the last 17 years or so. The Laid Back will be missed  by not only darters but by many other regulars who frequented our favorite haunt. What will we do without those delicious steaks, burritos, pork chops etc... We are particularly going to miss Juanita and Rotten Rodney the owners of the Laid Back. They are one of a kind and to know them is to love'm. The closing is truly the end of and era. There is good news that is a part of this event though. After 27 years Rotten and Juanita tied the knot in the LB on Feb. 24, 2007. It was as memorable a wedding as I can remember. The LB was packed with family and friends with standing room only. As the ceremony began the jukebox was supposed to play the wedding march but due to about 15 songs being queued up ahead of the march this is not exactly what happened. The songs played in order a line or two at a time while the reset button was being pushed to go to the next tune. You could not have picked the songs or planned it any better. It was hilarious and everyone was all but in tears by the time they were through. The ceremony was very nice and had it's funny moments as well. After the ceremony the Lizzards and Ratbastards presented Juanita and Rodney with a plaque thanking them for the memories and a certificate for an all expense paid dinner at The Scotch & Sirloin complete with limo service. Here is a link to what the plaque looked like. A blind draw of course ensued and many beverages were consumed. A very happy and memorable day. The Laid Back closed it's doors for good on Feb. 28th, 2007. Thanks for the memories! On a happy note the Lizzards and Ratbastards have found a new home for their teams in pretty short order and have spent the last two weeks getting Kelly's Irish Pub set up for darts. Kelly's will be a great new home for our dart teams. Kevin the owner has bent over backwards for us and is supporting us 100%. The dart area is excellent, there is a menu with good chow and an awesome selection of tap beers so come down and check out Kelly's. Monday and Thursday teams are signed up at this time. Tell Kevin thanks for his support if you stop in. Well that's about all for the time being but that is quite a bit to digest. Catch you later.

Jay Fitch gave this clip to me. I thought it was pretty amusing and hits kinda close to home if you know what I mean LOL.

Well another ChiliPalooza is under our belts and by all accounts everyone had a good time. Participation could have been a bit better but it did not dampen the festivities. Twelve entries battled it out for top honors and I must say that the entries were very tasty. Top honors in the Judged Chili went to Sylvan Songer for the second year running. Second place went to Rhonda Clore (my apologies if the last name spelled wrong). In the People's Choice category first place went to Rhonda as well with second place going to Ratbastard Clint Phillips. Last but not least were the presentation awards. First Place went to Sherry Blanchat and second went to the Ratbastards. There was of course a lot of great music. Savage, Batwater and the CC4 all took the stage throughout the day for the listening pleasure of all. The CC4 had not played together in many years and played a lot of old favorites. A special thanks to Savage for entertaining us again and providing the excellent sound system. Two blind draws were held with the monies from the taster's kits split and added into the pot. The Double One Challenge board was popular again this year with the first payout going to Cheese. The Lizzards would like to say a big thank you to Commander Paul McPhillips for allowing us to hold the ChiliPalooza at the American Legion again this year. Well time to pack up the ole chili pot until next year. Thanks for your support and see ya next time!

2-4-06

What can I say, behind again! Just wanted to put in a note of congratulations to those that ran the Wichita Air Capital Open 25th anniversary tournament. Well done to all! Special thanks to Pat Law, Larry Crowl, Jimmie Fleetwood, Cheryl Andree, Vicki Trussell, Dave Andree and members of the WDA. I would also like to than TJ from US Logo for taking Mrs. Cheeses artwork and producing great shirts etc... They all worked long and hard to make the Air Cap one of the best ever. We had a huge turn out, great dart matches and just enough beer to keep us grinnin'

1-17-05

As usual I am a little behind getting the latest Head Line written. I would like to give a big thanks to Shallene Chamberlain, Chris Jessup and anyone else who helped to put together the Old Timers Blind Draw Reunion on 1-13-06. There was a huge turnout of darting's elite players from all the way back in the beginning of the WDA some 30 or so years ago to some of the more recent additions to our darting family. I personally started darting 25 years ago and have been an active WDA member the entire time. The "Old Timers" that came out for the event were the darters that made me want to improve my game and play for all these years. I hope that this can become a yearly tradition for the WDA. It would is so nice to see old friends and trade stories more often. Thanks again for a very special evening. While we are talking about big fun and special darting events don't forget the ChiliPalooza will be held at the American Legion again this year on Mar. 4. We hope to see you there for a big turnout. I am looking for Chili Entries so please contact me if you would like to pit your pot against some of Wichita's finest Chili. Email me at  loungelizzards@cox.net

10-8-05

It's been awhile since I have made any entries to the Head Lines. I have been very busy with Palooza business vacation etc...  The LizzardPalooza 2005 was another big success thanks to the hard work of all the Lizzards and our friends. Friday started off with the blind draw events and music by Batwater. The events went well and Batwater was well received on their first outing. Saturday began with the Youth / Adult shoot and the buffet breakfast with both having a very good turnout. We then went into the main darting events. A charity auction was held after the Doubles 501 event and somewhere in the neighborhood of $700.00 was raised for a couple of good causes. We ran pretty late on the next events due to the auction but no one seemed to mind too bad. John Classen again did his magic and smoked an awesome 175 lb. hog that was served after the auction. Thanks to Cheese for providing some of  his delicious BBQ sauce for the meal. The last event Mixed Trips wrapped up in the wee hours of the morning. Music Saturday was provided by our friend Mauri Raines who could  not play very long but the time he played was great. Then Savage took the stage and rocked the Palooza as only they can. Sunday morning hot dogs were grilled and then on to the Die Hard Blind Draw. A surprising number of teams were fielded and the event and the Palooza wrapped up mid-afternoon. There were a couple of things that took a negative turn that I will not get into but hope they are worked out by next years Palooza.  I will mention though that there were a number of underage people trying to drink from the keg and getting other alcohol from I am not sure where. We need to police our kids and be sure they stay out of the beer and stay sober. One incident with the Sheriff would put the LizzardPalooza in jeopardy and probably end some of us up in jail. Just food for thought for next year. All in all a great time, great darts, great music and delicious food. Thanks from the Head Lizzard and all the Lizzards for making it work for the fifth year in a row.

3-11-05

Been a little behind schedule lately but better late than never. The 1st Third Annual ChiliPalooza is two weeks in the past but not forgotten. Everyone had a blast again this year and the chili was awesome. Music was of course provided by the official band of the Lounge Lizzards "Savage" and an open jam followed. Attendance was down a bit due to out of town tournaments but their were plenty of folks to have one helluva a party. Thanks to the Legion, my fellow Lizzards, Savage and all our fine friends and darters. We of hope to do it again next year so be working on your winning recipes!

3-10-05

Hey I just saved a bundle of money on my insurance... Hmmm, this could constitute Lizzardabuse.  gecko

9-12/04

Well it has been a week since LizzardPalooza '04. I think I have almost recovered from all the fun. Thanks to everyone who attended this year. From all accounts I believe it was the best Palooza yet. We try to improve, add a little and change it up some each year. This year we did all three and then some. If you were there you saw the new open air building that the darting events were held in. No chance of a rain out but of course with shelter available no rain was in site. Friday evening for the first time we had live music brought to you by the Palooza Blues Band which was well received. We hope you enjoyed the band as much as we enjoyed playing for you. Two kegs of beer fought a good fight but were defeated late Friday due to a record turnout for the first night. Saturday began with the Youth / Adult shoot and a run for two more kegs which was followed by the wedding of Kenny Chamberlain and Shallene Whitmore. It was a really nice ceremony and the bride and groom looked great. After the wedding sign ups began for the events that paid out cash plus the coveted Palooza 1st Place stones. About the same time a friend of Savage and The Head Lizzard Mauri Rains entertained everyone with some great acoustic rock/folk music. Mauri was great and we hope we can get him to do a return engagement at the ChiliPalooza and next years LizzardPalooza. Darting commenced without a hitch. We had several Lizzards getting stones this year. Dale da Scale Casey and Jeremy Little Lizzard Fleetwood took first in 501 Doubles. The Cricket Doubles were won by Captain Kenny Chamberlain and Brent Johns. Finally, the Mixed Trips were won by Danny Wood, John L and Laura (Mother of the Bride). After Mauri finished playing it was time for Savage (the official band of the LizzardPalooza and ChiliPalooza) to rock the Palooza with a mix of tunes from 1960's to current. As always they kicked ass! Savage wrapped up around midnight or so and after a little quiet time Kenny's uncle Joel started playing Brent Duncan's acoustic guitar over by the darting area. I joined in with a little harp and about a dozen of us sat in a circle until 4:00 in the morning playing old classics, singing and drinking. Brent sang and played a couple interesting tunes of his own.We had a blast.  Sunday morning the survivors from the night before got up and did a little cleanup. The grounds were in much better shape than they were last year. This year we had friends attend from several different places. A group from the Topeka area, one person from Tucson, folks from Oklahoma, Iowa and even one from Camp Pendelton in California. Wow, how cool is that. We had shirts sell in Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma and even in Australia. We are definitely becoming more popular and getting bigger and better each year. Thanks to all and stay tuned for the ChiliPalooza around February '05.

7-14-04

I have been a little behind on some of my web duties lately so I am playing a little catch up right now. The LizzardPalooza barn raising was held on 7-8-04 and went very well. We had approximately fifteen people lending a hand in the project which took many beers and the better part of eight hours. Captain Kenny grilled up some burgers and hot dogs for a tasty lunch. The building is 26x40x15 shaped like a Quonset hut and open at both ends. The sides also roll up about 5 feet so we will have good ventilation and a dry place for our darting events. It looks pretty cool. If you want to order LizzardPalooza 2004 tee shirts the deadline is coming up in about 2 weeks. Let me know what you need at loungelizzards@cox.net and I will put your order in. We are also doing breakfast Saturday morning for $5.00 so be sure to let me know in advance if you want to have vittles. This years LizzardPalooza will have live music both Friday and Saturday night so spread the word. This years Palooza should be the best ever. Check out the details, tee art, etc… at LizzardPalooza. If you have any questions feel free to email me at the email address above.

3-14-04

Those of you at the ChiliPalooza may remember that we awarded two "Lizzard Lover" awards that day. One to Cheryl Andree for 2002 and one to Chuck Phillips for 2003. The award is presented once a year and includes a framed plaque and dinner for two along with a huge thanks from the Lizzards for the help and support they have provided with the Palooza events.

3-8-04

It's been a little over a week since the "Been There, Done That, Doin' It Again ChiliPalooza 2004. I am a little slow getting the pictures posted to the website so I must apologize. It has been a busy week. I should have the pictures and results up by tonight or tomorrow night. I believe everybody had a good time and I would like to say thanks on behalf of the Lounge Lizzards for making it a success. We had eighteen entries this year. A few short of last year but still enough for a good competition. We managed to raise $260.00 through entry monies and taster kits and the Lizzards have decided to add this amount to our own WDA Spring Fling (date to be posted later) along with the money added in by the WDA and your entry fees. It should make for a big turnout and a big payout if you get in the green (lizzard pun, sorry)! We would like to extend a special thank you to "Savage" the official band of the Lounge Lizzards. They put in a lot of hard work setting up and tearing down their equipment plus put on one HELL OF A SHOW! This year we had a number of musicians get up and jam at various times and in various combinations with members of "Savage" and some of our own darter's performed. Merlin Suderman, Steve Clare, Robert Clare, and Matt Clare played a number of great d blues classics (with the help of an unnamed paid professional harmonica player). Vicki (forgive me I can't remember your last name) and Pam Songer got up with the band and did some great tunes individually and then sang backup and danced on some more tunes. Bill Greiner did the LizzardPolka and some other interesting tunes on his keyboard and last but not least Chris Fitch did some flamenco style guitar work that everyone enjoyed. Thanks to all who played. Vicki send me an email if you want your last name included. The Blind Draw was a good one with First Place of $100.00 going  to Brad Phillips and Scott Thompson. That about sums up this year's ChiliPalooza. Thanks to all who helped with setup/cleanup and a BIG THANKS to my Lizzard compadres for all their hard work and for keeping it running smoothly. I could not pull this off with out them. Well enough mush, hope you all had fun and that we can do it again next year! Flaps Down.

3-7-04

Here's a little Lizzard humor submitted by Jimmie Fleetwood. Need I say more!

bungygraphic

1-18-04

Well, another Air Capital Open has wound down until next year. The tournament was a lot of fun and run very well by tournament director Pat Law with his henchmen Larry Crowl and Jimmie Fleetwood. Also keeping things going smoothly were Vicki Trussell and Cheryl Andree taking sign ups. We had new Honorary Lizzards named being the first to hit his or her elusive double one out. Also take look at our new Junior Lizzards. The Lizzards are now looking ahead to this year's "Been There, Done That, Doin' It Again ChiliPalooza 2004" to be held on February 28th. Get your entries in as soon as possible! Hope to see ya there.

12-18-03

The holiday season is here boys and girls. Hope you all have a very safe and Happy Holiday Season with your friends and families. I got a bit of a Christmas present today at work. During a game of 501 against Gecko Dave Rosendale I took out 6 with just three darts and yes you guessed it, I did it with three double ones! The first Lizzard Deadeye that I am aware of! The only unfortunate thing is that it was during practice so I can't claim the Deadeye Stone. Maybe next time. I thought it was kind of fitting that the Head Lizzard threw the first one after all this time of preaching the virtues of double one outs. Pay attention to the "Events" page in the coming days for the announcement of the date for ChiliPalooza 2004.

Would like to add to the previous article a special thanks to Chuck Phillips owner of Kansas Concrete Cutting for donating $300.00 to the prize money for LizzardPalooza 2002 and again for Palooza 2003. His generosity sweetened the pot for all of us. Pass on a thank you when you see him and be sure to use KCC for your concrete cutting/drilling needs.

Through rain and snow and sleet of night...well no snow or sleet but the rain more than made up for it. Another LizzardPalooza has come and gone. LizzardPalooza 2003 was a big success thanks to  fun loving die hard darters. Almost constant rain (sometimes torrential) did not dampen the spirit of those that came out for the tournament. With numbers somewhere around 100 our darting friends flocked and slithered to the Palooza. I have to say that I am proud to be counted as one of this crazy bunch of folks that know how to make the best of what could have been a disaster. Friday evening the blind draw was held and we stayed relatively dry. It was unfortunate that the bands were unable to play due to the weather but everyone had fun. The rains started in earnest after the draw was held and continued throughout the night into the next morning. Breakfast was served around 10:00 AM and was delicious. The rains continued and we were forced to improvise and move some of the boards under a large tent. We started a little late but the youth/adult shoot got under way with some great games being played. We followed up with the rest of the scheduled events and with the help of a few beers continued on through the day. The rain was kind enough to stop long enough for the wedding of Rick Lowery to Denise Hoover. The ceremony was very nice and unusual to say the least. I have never attended a wedding where the standard apparel was rain gear and galoshes before. Rick and Denise will have fond memories no doubt. Congrats to the bride and groom. After the wedding John Classen popped the top on the cooker and served up a delicious smoked hog. Many people brought covered dishes and the meal was awesome! Savage was scheduled to play Saturday evening but again due to the rain had to cancel. The guys in the band were very disappointed. We pressed on and darts resumed again after dinner and continued on until the last dart was thrown around 3:30 AM Sunday morning. If you did not make it out you missed a classic event. I have never seen so many people have so much fun while standing in the rain. I never heard a complaint at all. Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to all who attended. I look forward to doing it again next year. With the help of Chuck Phillips and Kansas Concrete Cutting next year we plan to have a large tent to conduct the tournament under so we will be able to stay a little dryer should it rain. A special thanks to Kenny Chamberlain and his family for allowing the LizzardPalooza to take place on their property. An event this size takes it's toll on the landscape especially with the rain turning everything into a sea of mud. Oh well, that's the Palooza! See ya next year!

7-18-03

I was sad to find out last night that two of our youth darters Crystal Thompson and Alley Inkelaar were in a very bad automobile accident on 7-13-03 with 6 other children and the Aunt and Uncle of Alley. Coming back from a trip to Oklahoma the van they were in was hit head on. Alley's uncle lost his life and all in the van were injured and hospitalized. It is my understanding that at this time two of the kids remain hospitalized in Oklahoma. Crystal and Alley returned home this week and narrowly avoided having to have surgery. They are restricted to home and a 4 week rest and recovery period but should be fine. I am very sad for their loss and for the tragedy that they had to endure. I am very grateful that everyone else survived the accident and have them all in my thoughts and prayers. Donations are being accepted by the Executive Counsel of the Wichita Darting Association to help the kids and their families. There will also be three blind draws held next weekend with the proceeds to go into the help fund. Friday night 7-25-03 at the American Legion at 7:00PM, Saturday night 7-24-03 at the Laid Back Club at 7:00PM and unfortunately I am not sure of the time and location of the event Sunday. Everyone is encourage to attend and to donate what they can to help. If you would like to make a donation you can contact Cheryl Andree through the WDA website at http://www.wdanews.com or contact email me at loungelizzards@cox.net and I will see your donation is directed to the right place. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

5/21/03

Hi boys, girls and Lizzards. I am happy to report that our fine WDA Executive Counsel has done it again. The River Festival Shoot and Spring Fling was a big success and a great time was had by all. Attendance was down slightly but weather may have been a factor. Payouts were good and we even had a repeat winner in Cap'n Kenny Chamberlain. He represented the Lizzards in fine fashion again. An added attraction this year was live music by the official band of the Lounge Lizzards "Savage" who kicked ass as usual. Be sure to give them a big thank you next time you see one of the guys and let them know we appreciate them donating their time and tunes. Next item on the horizon is the LizzardPalooza 2003 which will be held over Labor Day weekend this year. It should be even bigger and better than the last two. Tee Shirts orders will start about mid June. James Ransom is hard at work on the design now and I will post the artwork and details on in the Lizzard's Lair soon so stay tuned. You will also be happy to know that the Fighting Double One Brigade tee shirts and accessories were a big hit. Upwards of $200.00 was raised for one of the families of a fallen soldier in the Iraqi war effort. We have a couple of Kansas candidates in mind and I am working at making arrangements to deliver the cash and a thank you to them. Shirts etc... are still available for a short time. If you would like to order go to the Lizzard's Lair homepage and select the Lizzard Gear Ltd. button. Of course our thanks go out to all in the armed forces that put themselves on the line to protect our country and our freedom! Well, that's if for now. Take care, be safe and GOOD DARTING.

4-6-03

Hi guys and gals,

I just placed the order for our Iraqi Freedom Lizzard Brigade Tee Shirts. With your generosity and support for our troops we have raised $170.00 so far for the family of a fallen soldier. I will continue to run the shirts on the Internet to try and raise more funds. When tee shirt orders quit coming in I will be getting with our friends at the base and recruit their help in finding a recipient for the money and a thank you letter signed, hopefully by all who have purchased shirts. I have chosen to have the shirts shipped at the cheapest rate so we can have as much money as possible to give to our recipient family. The shirts should arrive mid next week or so. I hope that is alright with everyone. When on the site click on the Lizzard’s Gear Limited button and it will take you to the shirt site. Here you can view and order the shirts. Payment can be made directly online in a variety of ways. Let folks know what’s up if they don’t have Internet access so they can contact me or get with a Lizzard to make their order. Money and a letter won’t bring back those that have fallen but it will show we care. I for one am proud to do a little bit to try and make a difference. Thanks to all of you! Pray for our troops, (both home and abroad), and our decision makers that are trying to make the world a safer place for us and our families.

3-20-03

If you were not at the American Legion at around 6:00 PM on Friday March 20th then you really missed out. The WDA in conjunction with other darting organizations and individuals had collected an impressive assortment of dart supplies and boards to send to the people who are defending our freedom. Our friends in the military. A total of 43 dartboards and a very large selection of darts and accessories will ship out over the course of this week. I can't say how impressed I am and how proud I am of the people in the WDA. It should send a clear message to our troops that we support their efforts and appreciate the risks they take.

3-3-03

Well the WDA Shindig was held on 3-1-03 at the American Legion. Harley Adams came up with the idea and put it all together. With some creative fund raising Harley was able to raise a very respectable sum of money for the WDA River Fest Shoot. I don't have the numbers at this time but I know they were high. Auctioning off board sponsorships was a great idea. Be sure to give Harley a pat on the back next time you see him. Good Job!

2-23-03

It's been a week since the ChiliPalooza and I have been too busy to complete my duties as the Head Lizzard. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates the Lounge Lizzards. Without their efforts the ChiliPalooza and LizzardPalooza could not be accomplished. Many thanks also to all who came early and helped with setting up the room and to those that helped run the tournament. A special thanks to the official band of the Lounge Lizzards "Savage" who kicked ass and made it a party as usual.  As you know the event was a fund raiser for the WDA River Festival Shoot. A check was sent to them in the amount of $481.00. This was raised through chili entries, taster's kit sales, the Flippin' Lizzard auction, the Double One shoot and a generous donation by Chuck Phillips owner of Kansas Concrete Cutting. I was very impressed by the effort put into dressing up the tables and the cooks. It really added that little something extra to the event. They looked so good we had to take a vote and do awards for presentation. Looks like we may have to do this again and the competition in all categories can do nothing but escalate. I believe a great time was had by all and the event went off without a hitch. Can't wait until next time. Well, better go for now! Check in later for additional installments in HEAD Lines.
